A PVC reactor of the Middle East petrochemical giant exploded!

Petkim, a Turkish petrochemical giant, announced that on the evening of June 19, 2022, an explosion occurred at the Aliaga plant where is located in 50 kilometers north of lzmir. According to the company, the accident occurred in the PVC reactor of the factory, no one was injured, and the fire was quickly controlled, but the PVC device was temporarily offline due to the accident.
According to local analysts, the event may have a great impact on the European PVC spot market. It is reported that because the PVC price in China is far lower than that of Turkey, and on the other hand, the PVC spot price in Europe is higher than that of Turkey, most of petkim’s PVC products are exported to the European market.
