Applications

TPE strain-relief compounds are commonly used for:

  • Power and appliance cord exits – boots at plug or device ends.
  • Chargers and adapters – molded cable ends with repeated bending.
  • Data and signal cables – USB, audio, instrument cables with flexible exits.
  • Cable grommets and feed-throughs – strain relief at panel or housing entries.

Applications of TPE strain-relief boots

Typical Grades

Grade Hardness Key Performance Processing Typical Use
TPE-S Boot 60A 60A Very soft, high bending comfort, good recovery Injection molding Small charger & device boots
TPE-S Boot 70A 70A Balanced softness and fatigue resistance Injection / insert molding Appliance cord strain relief
TPE-S Boot 80A Tough 80A Improved cut and crack resistance, firm support Injection molding Heavy-duty power and tool cable ends

Note: Adhesion and flow can be adjusted according to the cable jacket material and mold design.

Key Advantages

  • High elastic recovery to resist kinking at cable exits.
  • Crack resistance under repeated bending and handling.
  • Soft-touch feel that matches consumer electronics expectations.
  • Good colorability for matching or branding of plug and cable.
  • Available in SEBS (better aging, low odor) and SBS (cost-focused) versions.

Key features of TPE strain-relief compounds

Processing & Recommendations

  • Recommended melt temperature: 170–200 °C depending on hardness and flow.
  • Drying: 70–80 °C for 1–2 hours before molding.
  • Suitable for injection and insert molding onto pre-assembled cables.
  • Ensure cable jackets are clean and free from release agents in bonding zones.
  • Gate and venting design should support complete filling of thin boot sections.
