Polyamide 6 chips—commonly known as Nylon 6 chips—are named for the amide linkages (–CO–NH–) present in their macromolecules. Typically appearing as white, cylindrical granules, Nylon 6 chips have a melting point of 210–220°C and a decomposition temperature of approximately 300°C. They are soluble in phenol and hot concentrated sulfuric acid, exhibit excellent electrical insulation properties, and possess good resistance to alkalis and corrosion. Nylon is the most abrasion-resistant of all synthetic fibers.
